E ric Kouassi moved to the U.S. from Africa to get a computer science degree and ended up starting a church. We sat down recently to talk about his leadership style, the keys to success, and why looking on the positive side of difficult situations can help you persevere.
Kouassi firmly believes that you get back what you put into something, regardless of whether it’s belief in God or starting a business: “Whatever you do, do it right, and it will do you right.”“Whatever you do, do it right, and it will do you right.”~Pastor Eric Kouassi Click To Tweet
Pastor Kouassi takes a hands-on approach to leadership: “Always lead by example,” he says. He can tell his followers they need to go to school only because he has a degree. Advice is far easier to follow when you can see it in action—and see firsthand that it works.
Today, we’re more aware than ever that the world can be a difficult place since so many people are getting rejected and are dealing with anger and pain. But Pastor Kouassi says the key is to remember that “life is just full of ups and downs… but also life is full of good stuff.” Life is a blessing, he says: “Breathing is a blessing.”
Learning to find the positives, even in negative people and situations, can build resiliency and help you climb toward success without getting bogged down by the bad. Everyone has struggles and pain (“even Jesus,” Kouassi notes), but the people who shine are the ones who focus on the positive.
