Business owners, nurses offer perspectives on service, pursuing goals
Since meeting during their high school days, Nesha Jones and DeMeria Bruce have shared a love of nursing.
This passion led them to found Fulton Homes Education Center, an organization that provides CNA, CMA, and CPR training. As they traveled for their careers, Jones and Bruce observed the need for more caregivers who understood the meaning of empathy and relationship building with patients, which provided the inspiration for the business.
From an idea to reality
Bruce says she came up with the idea about a year ago when she was living in Texas and Jones in Las Vegas. After she called Jones to discuss the plan, they both agreed to return to Omaha to start their company.
“I just wanted to make sure that if we were going to do this, we were putting out compassionate, caring CNAs into our community to help our loved ones,” Bruce says.

Fulton Homes Education Center now offers CNA classes, tutoring, mentoring, and scholarships. Jones says their mission is to demonstrate leadership and dedication to others.
“It’s very important to us to live as an example for our students,” Jones says. “We teach them how to be compassionate and how to make relationships with their patients and their family members.”
Bruce says nursing is an ideal profession for people who wish to serve on the frontlines, especially during this time.
“It’s very rewarding to just go to work every day, look somebody in the eye, and be like their hero or savior,” she says.

While the pandemic has been difficult for everyone, Jones says she is proud of the way healthcare professionals have responded.
She says people can overcome adversity such as these times by working toward their goals every day with steadfastness of purpose.
“All you have to do is stay consistent and just go for it,” Jones says. “The sky is the limit.”
