Lifegate Church pastor Les Beauchamp spreads encouragement through God’s Word, discusses true meaning of leadership
Growing up in a military family, Les Beauchamp has lived all over the world from Togo to Hong Kong.
However, he says his time in Taiwan altered his life forever.
“My life was changed drastically as I was living in Taiwan with my family and I met the Lord Jesus in a very real and profound way,” Beauchamp says. “It changed the trajectory of my life.”
A higher calling
Before he became the pastor of Lifegate Church, Beauchamp says he thought his future was in higher education. While he was teaching at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, he was invited to speak at a church conference.
He says his path became clear from there.
“Thirty four years ago, thinking I was going to train people to transform the world,” Beauchamp says, “I’m now training people to transform the world, but at the church level.”
Finding comfort and purpose
In modern society, many people are searching for purpose. By leading through example, Beauchamp says believers can help others discover their identity in Christ.
However, since the COVID-19 pandemic began, many have wrestled with fear and worry. To provide comfort and encouragement, Beauchamp says Lifegate Church quickly adjusted by holding daily Facebook Lives that reminded people of God’s love.
“Too often, we look at answers that come from entities that are changing all the time,” he says. “The way we emphasize security is focusing on that which cannot be changed, destroyed, or taken away. Only God is that.”
The value of servant leadership
In addition to pointing people to Christ, Beauchamp says he reminds people fulfillment comes from relationships.
He says success is a result of working with others toward a common goal.
“Success in life is not an individual sport,” he says. “It is a community endeavor.”
To experience true purpose in life, Beauchamp advises people to practice servant leadership.
“Never underestimate the power and the influence of your leadership,” Beauchamp says. “There’s nothing more profound than having a positive and even eternal influence on the lives of those that God privileges you to experience.”
